License Status

Insurance Continuing Education Hours Required

  • 24 hours are required biennially.
  • 3 must be completed in Oregon Law, out of the 24 hours.
  • 3 hours must be in Ethics, out of the 24 hours.

New Requirement to Sell Annuities in Oregon

  • As of Jan 1, 2024, Oregon SB 536 (2023) -Sales of Annuities- Insurance producer training will be updated to include Best Interest Standards training. Producers that completed the 4-hour, annuity suitability training prior to January 1, 2024, will have until June 30, 2024, to complete the new 1-hour, Best Interest course. After June 30, 2024 , producers planning to sell annuities will have to complete the updated 4-hour training course.

State Specific Insurance Continuing Education Courses

  • 3 hours must be in Oregon law.
  • 3 hours must be in Ethics.
  • Initial 8 hours LTC Certification course required to start selling LTC.  
  •  – A 4 hour follow-up course is required in the subsequent renewal period.

Insurance Continuing Education Renewal or Compliance Date for Licensees

  • The license renewal date is the last day of the producer’s birth month, biennially.

Insurance Continuing Education Types of Courses Accepted

  • Independent self study courses or Classroom
  • Courses must be approved in the lines for which the agent is licensed.

 Reporting to Your State

  • $1.00 per credit hour is required to report to your state.
  • State Insurance completions are reported 2 times every business day. If course is completed after 2 PM PT, it will be reported the following business day.
  • CFP reports are sent on Friday at 2 PM PT to the CFP Board electronically. You may also self-report your CFP completions to www.cfp.net

Insurance Continuing Education Carryover Hours & Course Repetition

  • No excess CE credit hours may be carried over to the next renewal period.
  • Courses may not be taken for credit more than once in a renewal period.

Insurance Continuing Education Exemptions

  • Non-residents are exempt Limited insurance representatives
  • Individuals holding limited lines licenses for which an exam is not required.
  • Individuals who are retired, at least 58 years of age, have been licensed for at least 10 years, authorized to transact life insurance only and will be servicing existing policies only. This exemption requires department approval.

Method to Certify Completion:

  • For Most States you will be able to print your certificate of completion online once you have completed your exam.
  • We usually report to the State Department of Insurance or regulatory board by the next business day.
  • It may, however, take your State DOI or regulatory board up to 30 days to report your completion results on their systems.

Nonresidents:

  • Initial LTC Requirement: A non-resident producer must complete an initial 8-hour NAIC LTC training course approved by the state of Oregon OR complete an 8-hour NAIC LTC course from another state to fulfill Oregon requirements. 
  • On-going Requirement: A 4-hour follow-up LTC course is required every 24 months.
