License Status
North Carolina Insurance CE Hours Required
- All licensees are required to complete 24 credit hours, including 3 hours of which must be in Ethics, every biennial compliance period or every two (2) years.
North Carolina Insurance CE Course Subject Requirements
- 3 hours of total Insurance Continuing Education CE credits hours must be completed in Ethics
- Annuity – Best Interest Interest Certification: Effective 1/1/2023, before selling, soliciting or negotiating Annuity policies in North Carolina, must completed a one-time 4-hour annuity certification, the annuity best interest course, prior to selling annuities.

- Long Term Care Partnership Training:
- Each licensee who holds an accident and health or sickness license, a Medicare/Supplement Long-Term Care limited lines license and who sells, solicits or negotiates Long-Term Care Partnership policies shall complete eight (8) hours of Long-Term Care Partnership education as defined in 11 NCAC 06A.0801(12) within one year of March 7, 2011. After meeting this initial eight (8) hour training requirement, four (4) hours of Long-Term Care Partnership education is required every biennial compliance period thereafter.
- Each licensee issued an accident and health or sickness license or a Medicare/Supplement Long-Term Care limited lines license after March 7, 2011 shall complete eight (8) hours of Long-Term Care Partnership credit as defined in 11 NCAC 06A 10.0801(12) prior to selling, soliciting or negotiating a Long-Term Care Partnership policy. After meeting this initial eight (8) hour training requirement, four (4) hours of Long-Term Care Partnership education is required every biennial compliance period thereafter.
- Each person holding a property, personal lines, or adjuster license shall complete a continuing education course on flood insurance and the National Flood Insurance Program within the first biennial compliance period, and then every other biennial compliance period (or every four years) thereafter.
- Adjusters and Agents who hold one or more of the following licenses: Property, Casualty, Personal Lines, Life, Accident/Health and Variable Life/Variable Annuity Products may complete their 24 Insurance Continuing Education credit hours requirement by taking courses in any line of authority.
Renewal or Compliance Date for Licensees
- Producer license is perpetual as long as licensee meets CE requirements.
- Compliance date is biennial.
North Carolina Insurance CE – Types of Courses Accepted
- Independent self study or correspondence, self-study internet, webinar or in-person classroom courses.
Monitor Requirements
- Online exams DO NOT require a monitor.
- Correspondence courses are required to be monitored by a disinterested third party.
Reporting to Your State
- $2.05 per credit hour is required to report to your state.
- State Insurance completions are reported 2 times every business day. If course is completed after 2 PM PT, it will be reported the following business day.
- CFP reports are sent on Friday at 2 PM PT to the CFP Board electronically.

North Carolina Insurance Continuing Education Carryover Hours & Course Repetition
- Single/Dual License: excess hours may be carried over to the next renewal period
- A course may NOT be taken for credit more than once within a 2 year license term.
Exemptions
- Only a licensed insurance producer who is unable to comply with continuing education requirements due to military service or long-term medical disability may request a waiver for continuing education requirements. A long-term medical disability shall be certified on an annual basis by the producer’s attending physician. An exemption from Continuing Education requirements for up to one year shall be granted if the producer submits the following:
- (1) deployment orders from the United States Department of Defense; or
- (2) a notarized statement from a licensed physician stating the producer is unable to do the work he or she is licensed to do.

- For Most States you will be able to print your certificate of completion online once you have completed your exam.

North Carolina Non-Resident Producer Requirements
- To sell, solicit, or negotiate Medicare Supplement/Long Term Care coverage in North Carolina, a nonresident Producer must apply for the Accident & Health line of authority and the Medicare Supplement/Long Term Care nonresident license. The nonresident Producer must hold the Accident & Health line of authority in their home state.
